First commercial biofuel flight.

It was the first biofuel powered revenue flight to take place in Canada, using a 50/50 mix of biofuel and jet fuel in one of the plane’s engines. The Porter Airlines flight arrived in Ottawa from Toronto.

NASA Envisions “Clean Energy” From Algae Grown in Waste Water.

NASA scientists have proposed an ingenious and remarkably resourceful process to produce “clean energy” biofuels, that cleans waste water, removes carbon dioxide from the air, retains important nutrients, and does not compete with agriculture for land or freshwater.

China Promotes Development of Biofuels.

China seeks to promote the development of its biofuels industry through a series of supportive measures despite mass production difficulties. A spokesperson for the National Energy Bureau said that the Chinese government has set a goal of utilizing five million tons of ethanol fuel during the “12th Five-Year” period spanning 2011 to 2015, nearly double that set for the prior period (2006-2010).
